Alleged Harasser Questioned: 'Yet What If I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has consistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the tribunal was told communication data and data retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported investigations and continues to be open.
'I Don't Want Money'
Another recorded message, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I'm her? Then what? Isn't that significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I have a living here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the recording stated.
The jury was informed that by means of electronic messages, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, sent early photographs to her phone in a effort to display a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with the police force who gathered the information, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with family friends of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court learned Mrs Spragg developed a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a visit to the McCanns' home in the county in that winter.
Phone records demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated via messaging service to Mrs McCann to express the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the period leading up to the appearance to the village, the county, in December 2024.
The court learned correspondence between the two defendants, in last November, discussing endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
